Three dates for next year's calendar

The Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance published the 2027 dates on Tuesday, November 3 — early enough that no driver has an excuse to meet them by surprise:

Morning Coffee Brief

  • CVSA published its 2027 enforcement calendar on Tuesday: Brake Safety Week runs April 18–24, 2027, International Roadcheck runs May 11–13, 2027, and Operation Safe Driver Week runs July 11–17, 2027.
  • Brake Safety Week moved: it usually sits in late August, and in 2027 it lands in April — less than three weeks before Roadcheck, the biggest blitz of the year.
  • The brake numbers behind the calendar: in the 2025 Brake Safety Week, inspectors checked 15,175 vehicles and parked 2,296 for brake violations — 15.1%. Brakes are the largest share of out-of-service vehicle violations.

Why the April move matters

In a normal year, Brake Safety Week in late August gives a driver a season between the brake blitz and Roadcheck. In 2027 the gap collapses: brake week ends April 24, and Roadcheck opens May 11.

A brake problem found in April has days, not months, before the biggest inspection event of the year looks at the same truck. The finding and the deadline now arrive together.

The practical read: brake work that would have been summer work is spring work in 2027. The calendar, not the inspector, moved the deadline.

The brake record these dates are built on

Brakes earn their own week because they lead the out-of-service tables. In the 2025 Brake Safety Week, 15,175 vehicles were checked and 2,296 were parked for brake-related violations — about one truck in seven.

The unannounced version tells the same story without warning: the 2026 Brake Safety Day checked 4,021 vehicles and parked 574, a 14.3% rate, on a day nobody had circled.

This week's Wicked Safe results rhyme with both: brake defects were the top mechanical reason trucks were parked in the Northeast blitz. The failure is common, visible, and checkable — which is why it keeps leading the lists.

What to do with a calendar, six months early

A date six months out is not an alarm; it is a work order with time on it. Brake adjustment, pushrod travel, hoses and chambers can all be read on a walk-around today and fixed on a shop's schedule instead of an inspector's.

The checks themselves are in what brakes out of adjustment actually means and this morning's results piece, brakes and tires parked the most trucks. What a parking order costs when it lands is in placed out of service — what happens now.
