From tonight through Sunday night, the west side of Atlanta's perimeter is a work zone — and the shoulder you would normally stop on is the lane they are closing.
Georgia DOT's schedule runs November 2–9: lane and shoulder closures on I-285 and I-20 West at night, with daytime pacing operations laid on top.
If you run Atlanta's west side this week, plan around it. The breakdown plan changes when the shoulder is gone.
Here is the week as Georgia DOT published it:
In a normal week, a failure on I-285 West means the shoulder. This week, it can mean a travel lane.
A truck that dies in a paced, narrowed corridor stops the corridor with it — and the service truck has to reach you through the same queue you are sitting in.
So the rule for this week is simple: if the truck will roll at all, roll it to an exit or a ramp. A stop you choose beats the stop the truck chooses, every night this week.
The services that work this ground are built for exactly this week: mobile truck repair that comes to the truck, tire service at the stop or on the shoulder, and heavy towing and recovery when the truck cannot roll at all.
The Petro Atlanta West ground on Donald Lee Hollowell Parkway anchors the west-side stops. From there the corridor runs I-285 down to I-20 and west toward Douglasville.
This is the corridor's service page: mobile truck repair, tire service, and towing on Atlanta's I-285 and I-20 west side — the ground this closure week runs on.
